A CNC lathe with a 550/600 mm guideway is designed for medium and heavy turning applications where machine rigidity, workpiece capacity, and cutting stability are more important than simply achieving high spindle speed. Compared with smaller flat-bed CNC lathes, the wider guideway provides a stronger structural foundation for machining larger shafts, rollers, sleeves, pipes, and other industrial components.

Xinheng's 550/600 mm guideway CNC lathe series covers swing over bed from Φ630 to Φ1250 mm, spindle bores up to Φ140 mm depending on configuration, and workpiece capacities up to 4 tons.
What Is a 550/600 mm Guideway CNC Lathe?
The 550 mm or 600 mm guideway refers to the width of the machine bed guideway. It should not be confused with maximum turning diameter.

A wider guideway provides a larger support area for the carriage and helps the machine structure resist cutting forces during turning.
This becomes particularly important when machining large-diameter or heavy workpieces where deeper cuts, larger tools, and greater workpiece loads may be involved.
However, guideway width alone does not determine cutting capability. Buyers should also consider machine bed structure, spindle torque, motor power, chuck, turret, workpiece weight, and support system.
Applications
The 550/600 mm guideway CNC lathe series is suitable for medium and heavy components used in:
Typical workpieces include large shafts, rollers, sleeves, cylinders, discs, flanges, and pipe-type components. Xinheng also identifies shafts, pipes, and cylindrical parts in energy, marine, and heavy machinery industries as typical applications for this series.
Main Functions
Depending on the workpiece and tooling, the machine can perform:
OD Turning – rough and finish machining of external diameters
Facing – machining shaft, flange, and roller end faces
Boring – machining internal cylindrical surfaces
Grooving – producing relief and retaining-ring grooves
Taper Turning – machining tapered surfaces
Threading – producing internal and external threads
Drilling – axial hole machining with suitable tooling
For heavy roughing, the machine should provide sufficient rigidity and spindle torque. For finishing, stable tool movement and workpiece support become important for maintaining dimensional consistency.
Key Parameters
Xinheng's 550/600 mm guideway CNC lathe series includes several machine sizes.
Parameter | Available Range / Configuration |
Guideway Width | 550 / 600 mm |
Swing Over Bed | Φ630–Φ1250 mm |
Swing Over Carriage | Φ340–Φ930 mm |
Max. Workpiece Weight | 2–4 tons |
Spindle Bore | Φ100 / Φ105 / Φ140 mm depending on model/configuration |
Main Motor | 11 / 15 kW depending on model |
Standard Turret | 4-station vertical turret |
Standard Tailstock | Manual tailstock |
CNC System | FANUC 0i-TF(5) standard on current series page |
The exact capacity depends on the selected model. For example, the CKBP61125 provides a Φ1250 mm swing over bed, Φ930 mm swing over carriage, 600 mm guideway, and 4-ton maximum workpiece capacity.
Configuration for Heavy Cutting
For heavy turning, the complete configuration matters more than any single parameter.
Chuck: A 3-jaw manual chuck is standard, while different 3-jaw and 4-jaw manual, pneumatic, and hydraulic chucks are available depending on the clamping requirement.
Turret: The standard configuration is a 4-station square turret. Optional 6-, 8-, and 12-station turrets are available. Horizontal turret configurations can accommodate 25 × 25 mm or 32 × 32 mm tool sections.
Tailstock: The standard manual tailstock provides support for shaft machining, while a hydraulic tailstock is available as an option. Xinheng describes the tailstock structure as suitable for withstanding heavy cutting loads.
Steady Rest and Follow Rest: For long or slender shafts, additional support can reduce workpiece deflection and vibration. Both steady-rest and follow-rest options are available for this series.
How to select the Right Model
Do not select a heavy-cutting CNC lathe based only on the 550/600 mm guideway.
Start with the workpiece:
Diameter + Length + Weight + Material + Machining Allowance + Cutting Process + Tolerance
For example, a Φ300 × 2000 mm shaft and a Φ900 × 2000 mm roller have similar lengths but require very different chuck capacity, spindle torque, swing diameter, support, and machine rigidity.
For larger industrial rollers, Xinheng's own application guidance uses a 42CrMo Φ720 × 2500 mm roller as an example where swing, workpiece weight, turning length, guideway rigidity, tailstock/steady rest, and motor power all need to be evaluated together.
FAQ
Does a 600 mm guideway mean the machine can turn Φ600 mm workpieces?
No. Guideway width describes the machine bed structure. It is different from swing over bed and maximum turning diameter. This series includes machines with swing over bed up to Φ1250 mm.
Is a wider guideway always better?
Not necessarily. A larger and heavier machine should be selected when the workpiece and cutting load require it. For smaller components and lighter machining, a smaller CNC lathe may be more economical.
What configuration is useful for long heavy shafts?
A suitable chuck, tailstock, steady rest or follow rest should be considered according to the shaft diameter, length, weight, and rigidity.
What information should I provide before ordering?
Send the workpiece drawing, maximum diameter, length, weight, material, machining allowance, required operations, tolerance, surface finish, and production quantity.
Anyang Xinheng Machine Tool can recommend a suitable 550/600 mm guideway CNC lathe, chuck, turret, tailstock, and workpiece support configuration according to your machining requirements.
